Bas-Armagnac

Founded in 1832, the Castarède house is the oldest House in Armagnac and watches over a collection of vintages, the oldest of which dates from 1888. This unique know-how built up by the six successive generations has earned them a reputation as excellence around the world. Official Armagnac of the G8 2003 in Evian, Armagnac of the last most expensive dinner of the 20th century at the Gavroche in London...
Located in the heart of Bas Armagnac, the Castarède house has a 16-hectare vineyard. This estate, which surrounds a 16th century castle, allows them to remain in control of their production from distillation to the aging of their Armagnacs in oak barrels from the region. Castarède Armagnacs are distinguished by longer aging than those required by the regulations. The Castarède family has one of the largest collections of vintages.

Estate and wine: More than 175 years of experience, love and work have enabled the Castarède family to acquire know-how concerning the choice of the best productions from Bas Armagnac, the methods of distillation and aging of this specifically French eau-de-vie. The Castarède family owns two multi-hundred-year-old cellars: One on the banks of the Baïse: in Pont de Bordes (Lavardac) in Lot-et-Garonne, the cradle of wine marketing (marketing which at the time was done by waterways) . This aging cellar, a veritable “eco-museum”, has been preserved in the same spirit as when it was founded in the 19th century. It is considered by specialists as an exceptional place for aging due to the presence of this river, the Baïse, which creates remarkable isothermal conditions. It offers the best aging conditions for old vintages. The other, in Mauléon d'Armagnac, located in the great Bas Armagnac where the Château de Maniban is located, surrounded by its vines, planted with three grape varieties: Folle Blanche, Colombard, Saint-Emilion.
