DOMAIN WINES
The origins of the Domaine Jean-François Coche-Dury, located in Meursault in Côte-de-Beaune, go back to the inter-war period. For a long time, the estate's wines were mostly sold in bulk to Burgundy merchants. It was not until 1964 that Georges Coche-Dury really began to sell the majority of his wine in bottles. His son Jean-François pushes up the quality of the estate's wines and brings them international renown. Especially his white wines, such as his Meursault 1er Cru Perrières, or his Corton-Charlemagne. But Domaine Jean-François Coche-Dury also produces highly sought-after red wines such as Volnay Premier Cru or Auxey-Duresse. Jean-François Coche-Dury manages the 10.5 hectares, including 9 in Meursault, his estate with his son Raphael since 1997.
Green Guide
Modest and hard-working, now semi-retired, Jean-François Coche-Dury has avoided the pitfalls of global success. It does not matter if its wines are snapped up around the world and are trading at huge prices at auction, the Coche-Dury family continues to work its vineyards relentlessly and to follow its winemaking with the greatest attention. Now in the hands of his son Raphaël, the wines are easily recognizable by their straight, taut and finely aromatic style, focused on hazelnut. Above all, they have an absolutely unique depth, flavor and length. The casks come only from François Frères and Damy. The new ones enter a maximum of 20% for the villages and 50% for the grands crus. We are here at the top of what chardonnay can produce. Alas, all production is sold even before harvest, and it is impossible for the estate to accept new customers. On the other hand, one can find wines from this area on the menu of great restaurants. In 2015, the winery has expanded to gain work comfort.
The wines: we tasted three vintages of 2014, vintage here perfectly mastered and which confirms our impression of wines a little less austere in their youth than in the past. It is in the depth of the fruit, in the precision of the aromas, that the estate excels, always giving this feeling of both bright and crystalline wines.
