Château Montrose 2011: An exceptional Saint-Estèphe

Château Montrose 2011 is an exceptional red wine from one of the most prestigious terroirs of Bordeaux. Blended with 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, this wine is powerful, elegant and complex. Its deep garnet color offers an expressive nose of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), spices and tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied, fleshy and structured, with velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish. A wine to keep that will appreciate over time.

Raisins Oubliés 2013: A sweet wine from Périgord

Raisins Oubliés 2013 is a sweet white wine made from a rare grape variety, Sémillon. Harvested late, this wine benefits from an optimal concentration of sugars and aromas. Its golden color offers a complex nose of candied fruits (apricot, peach), honey and sweet spices. On the palate, it is unctuous, sweet and balanced, with a tangy freshness that brings it great finesse. An ideal dessert wine to accompany foie gras or blue cheese.

tasting note:

The Forgotten Grapes 2013 white:

As its name suggests, this trading vintage is a true sweet wine, born from the forgetting, deliberately of course, of the grapes on their bunches so that noble rot can produce its effect. Harvested on October 14, 2013, the Sémillon berries gave birth to a brilliant golden yellow wine. The bouquet exudes pleasant scents of dried apricot, white peach and honey highlighted by a mineral touch. The dried fruits appear from the attack then assert themselves in a round and creamy palate, very aromatic and well balanced by a tangy freshness on the finish.

1 bottle of Château Montrose 2011 - Saint-Estèphe (75cl)

One of the greatest wines of the Saint-Estèphe region

About the domain

It was in 1778 that Etienne-Théodore Dumoulin bought from Alexandre de Ségur a plot of the Calon estate, perfectly located, overlooking the Gironde. The area is then covered with heather which is covered with pink flowers in spring. Hence the name Montrose. His son Etienne created the vineyard, planted the vines, built the Château Montrose residence in 1825 and gradually expanded the estate. Success was not long in coming: during the 1855 classification, the wine was awarded 2nd Cru Classé du Médoc. The estate then had several owners before being acquired in 1896 by Louis Charmolüe, who bought it from his father-in-law Jean Hostein (who then owned Cos d'Estournel). The family remained in charge throughout the 20th century, represented until 2006 by Jean-Louis Charmolüe. A new page then turns with the purchase, by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, of this vintage which became legendary with the 1990 vintage.

About the vintage

Château Montrose produces wines of remarkable quality. Its vineyard, planted on poor ferruginous gravel soil forcing the vines to take very deep roots, produces wines of incredible concentration. The estate was managed by Jean-Bernard Delmas until 2011, who previously exercised his talents at Château Haut-Brion. Since 2012, Hervé Berland has taken over at the helm of the estate, at the request of Martin and Olivier Bouygues.
